Daddy Freeze has questioned the way some young people address older personalities, using UBA chairman, Tony Elumelu as an example

According to him, age and the relationship between people should matter when deciding how to address someone who is much older.

He said even at 50, he would not casually call Elumelu, who is 63, simply “Tony.”

He also questioned how anyone could look at a 63-year-old man and address him so casually, arguing that younger people should understand the importance of age and respect when speaking to their elders.

In his words. Freeze said:

“I’m not embarrassed for the girl. I’m embarrassed for her parents. Even me, at 50, I cannot call Tony Elumelu that is 63, Tony. Because he’s 13 years older than me. If you were five years older than me, I can call him Tony. But person wey you don meet for secondary school no be your mate”.

During the UBA Graduate Management Accelerated Programme graduation ceremony, a young female trainee addressed the UBA Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu simply as “Tony.”

But Elumelu quickly corrected her, and asked her to call him “Mr Elumelu” or “TOE”.
