A 22-year-old woman, Nwachukwu Chidubem Blessing, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command over an alleged plan to stage her own k!dnapping and collect ransom from her family.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday, September 20, 2026.
The police said Blessing allegedly worked with a female associate identified as “Onyinye” and another male accomplice to carry out the plan.
According to the spokesperson for the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the woman was reported k!dnapped along the Onitsha–Asaba Expressway on August 29.
Her family reportedly paid N3 million as ransom, but she was allegedly not released afterwards. The situation led the police to begin a further investigation into the case.
Ikenga said the investigation eventually led officers to Asaba, where Blessing was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, on Friday, September 18.
The police said the investigation is ongoing as officers work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged staged k!dnapping and identify the other people involved.
