Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has advised young couples to avoid spending too much on weddings, saying the pressure to organise big celebrations can affect their marriage.
The actress believes couples should focus on building a happy home instead of spending beyond their means to impress guests. She suggested that traditional and white weddings can be kept small without making the occasion less meaningful.
The actress also spoke about the pressure parents place on young people to become wealthy and provide for their families, particularly firstborn children who often carry heavy responsibilities.
In a post she shared, she said:
“I think big wedding out pressure on the marriage itself, but people don’t seems to have realised that. Not just spiritually but mentally.
“A man could date a girl and both will love each other so deeply, and then, after the whole big wedding, things don’t seems to be like it used to be.
“I would like to advice young people who will like to do wedding, pick few people from both families, seat in the parlour and pay bride price.
“You want white wedding, pick 30 people around you, go to court, from court, call pastor to pray for both of you, enter your house drink wine and sleep.
“Stop putting yourself under too much pressure.
“I never had that kind of marriage and I think that’s why I’m successful marital.
“Some are still unable to give birth bcos one ba.stard they invited to that married did something evil to the couple.
“This generation need to change many things such as parents putting pressure on their children to become rich and bring money home.
“Also the pressure on first born pressure to succeed. Parents, social media should let us breath.
“I think I’m in a better position to give this piece of advice.”
