I don’t like rapping in English – Sarkodie

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has said that rapping in his native language, Twi, gives him an edge he never felt when performing in English

The rapper made the remarks during a recent appearance on The Fuse, where he discussed his choice of language and how it has shaped his career.

Sarkodie recalled that he began rapping in English, but soon realised he felt inferior to other rappers.

“I started rapping in English but felt like I was beneath someone when I rapped in English,” he said.

According to him, switching to Twi changed everything, allowing him to express his emotions more authentically and compete confidently on a global stage.

“But when I rap in Twi, I feel equal to any other rapper in the world,” he said.

“Rapping in Twi is my superpower. I express myself way better in my mother’s tongue. The emotions I want to put out come out best when I rap in my native language,” he added.
