A business investment that promised huge returns has reportedly ended in a court case and a remand at Kirikiri Prison.
Social media personality Shola explained he lost ₦180 million after putting money into a technology venture introduced to him through an acquaintance. What initially appeared to be a promising business opportunity allegedly turned into a financial nightmare when repayment failed to materialise.
Shola said the people involved kept giving explanations and asking for additional funds. It was only later that he discovered another individual, identified as Blessing Anuwa, was allegedly the person actually managing the technology project.
After waiting several months without getting his money back, Shola decided to involve the police. Investigators reportedly traced the transferred funds to Blessing.
The investigation also uncovered an alleged attempt to mislead his associate about his whereabouts. While he claimed to be in China, authorities reportedly traced him to Ibadan, where he had been living with his wife after relocating from Lagos.
Despite reportedly securing bail in July, Blessing has remained in custody at Kirikiri because he has yet to fulfil the bail requirements.
Shola says he has accepted that recovering the money may no longer be possible and wants the case to proceed through the courts. The next hearing is expected in January 2027.
The alleged dispute involves claims of a total ₦360 million, with Shola’s personal investment reportedly accounting for ₦180 million.
