We Thought It Was Pneumonia But Later Realised She Had A Hole In Her Heart- Father Of Beneficiary Of MTN Foundation Free Heart Surgery

“Treasure started having frequent crises at age 3. She
couldn’t eat well, had a fluffy hair indicating a deficiency in her. She had
difficulty in breathing. She couldn’t continue schooling. So we thought it was
pneumonia. So we took her to the hospital for an x-ray at University of Nsukka
Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu where she was diagnosed to have a hole in the
heart. We went to so many hospitals. Later, we met Dr. Omolori in Federal
Medical Centre Lokoja who told us about MTN Foundation’s programme to sponsor
people to India for free heart surgery. After the operation, everything is now
normal. She can breathe well now. We thank God & MTN for giving her a new
    life”
Hope was restored finally for Musa Ojochenemi, a civil
servant and father of 5-year-old Treasure who was diagnosed with a hole in the
heart when she was just 3-years-old. His face brimmed with excitement as he
narrated the story of how MTN Foundation offered a helping hand to restore his
daughter to an active life by sponsoring her, in company of the father to an
all-expense-paid trip to India for a free heart surgery.

He was full of joy at the MTN head office when he and 13
other beneficiaries were welcomed to a warm reception by the MTN Foundation
team last week. He described the Foundation’s kind gesture as extraordinary
& humane. Musa said her brilliant daughter will now return to school in
    full force.
The Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Ms. Nonny Ugboma
in company of Mr. ‘Tsola Barrow, Sales & Distribution Executive, MTN
Nigeria, were full of joy when they saw little Precious who could barely talk
nor play prior to the surgery, but now running around within the MTN Nigeria
head office during the welcome reception organized in their honour.
“How wonderful it is to see these little children restored
to an active life. These children who were brought here were looking frail,
dull and inactive. But now, they could run, play, jump and look for trouble.
Nothing else can bring us greater joy than seeing the faces of these children
light up for happiness. We are happy that for those of them who couldn’t go to
school, or those who stopped along the way when the illness became severe can
now resume school. We thank the parents for allowing us to impact the lives of
these little gifts from God,” she said.

The MTN Foundation Medical Intervention Scheme has produced
about 50 beneficiaries in its five years of existence. Since inception, the
Foundation has spent over N18billion on various initiatives in 550 project
sites across the 36 States of the federation including the Federal Capital
    Territory (FCT).
