President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday assured that the abducted pupils would not be abandoned in captivity
He directed security agencies to beef up security around primary and secondary schools nationwide.
The President said there was a need to strengthen protective measures around schools in high-risk areas as part of renewed efforts to safeguard children.
He reiterated his commitment to the safe return of abducted pupils and teachers of Community Grammar School, and two other schools in Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to him, no stone should be left unturned in a bid to secure the release of the victims.
The President said the reinvigorated security measures around vulnerable schools should include updated school vulnerability mapping, stronger coordination between state governments and security commands, rapid-response links between schools and local security units, and enhanced community-based early warning systems.
President Tinubu, in a message marking Children’s Day 2026, which he personally signed, said: “As we mark this special day, which coincides with Eid-el-Kabir, some Nigerian children and their teachers in Oyo and Borno should be with their families, but are being held captive by criminals.
“Some children have been forced into fear. Some parents cannot join today’s celebration because their hearts are set on one prayer: ‘Bring our children home.’”
The President assured the children and their families that they had not been abandoned.
He stressed: “To those children, their parents, and their teachers, I say this as a father and your President: you are not forgotten. You are not abandoned.”
President Tinubu also assured grieving families that the government would apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
