Veteran actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has alleged that Labour Party (LP) chairman Julius Abure is acting as a tool of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to undermine Peter Obi

Speaking in an interview with Symfoni TV, Okonkwo claimed that Abure and his faction are agents of the government whose aim is to destabilize Obi’s political movement.
“I told Obi that these people had become agents in the hands of the government to destabilise him,” Okonkwo said. “And after saying all those things, within 72 hours, Obi went back to Abure’s office to publicly endorse them.”
Okonkwo also expressed disappointment that despite allegedly being misled and lied to by the Abure-led leadership, Obi still went ahead to recognize them.
This comes amid growing internal conflict within the Labour Party. Peter Obi recently blamed the All Progressives Congress (APC) for infiltrating LP and fueling the crisis. In response, LP’s national secretary Umar Ibrahim accused Obi of misleading Nigerians, insisting that internal rifts exist in every political party.
Currently, the battle for LP’s national chairmanship remains unresolved, with Julius Abure, Abayomi Arabambi, and Nenadi Usman all laying claim to the position. Despite the disputes, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to recognize Abure as the party’s national chairman.
