Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the deployment of security forces to local government secretariats following violent clashes triggered by an alleged takeover attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC)
The unrest has reportedly left five people d3ad and several others injured.
The crisis erupted after APC members attempted to assume control of local government offices, leading to confrontations with supporters of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The violence escalated, resulting in casualties and property destruction.
In response, Governor Adeleke directed security agencies to restore order and prevent further bloodshed.
He condemned the violence and warned against any actions that could destabilize the state. “Osun State must not descend into lawlessness,” he stated, emphasizing that his administration remains committed to maintaining peace.
Meanwhile, both the APC and PDP have accused each other of instigating the crisis. The APC claims its members were attacked while trying to exercise their mandate, while the PDP insists the opposition attempted an illegal power grab.
Security forces have since been stationed at strategic locations, and investigations into the killings and destruction are underway.
