Governor Ademola Adeleke has moved to calm fears among residents following reports of bandits invading parts of Osun State, assuring the public that schools across the state remain secure

The rumours sparked panic in several communities, including Ila, Ikirun, Obaagun and Osogbo, prompting many parents to rush to schools to take their children home over fears of possible kidnappings.

Videos showed students in some public schools in Ikirun running out of their classrooms amid concerns about a potential attack.

Reacting to the development in a statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke dismissed the reports as false and urged residents not to be alarmed.

The governor described the claims as a baseless scare campaign, insisting that security checks conducted in border communities and other parts of the state found no evidence of any kidnapping incident.

“I task our people to go about their normal activities without fear. Our government has taken steps to secure our schools. The Ministry of Education and the relevant security agencies have worked out a security strategy that is being implemented,” he said.

Adeleke further disclosed that the armoured personnel carriers recently refurbished by his administration are available for deployment to reinforce security operations across the state.
