United Capital Plc has confirmed the death of six of its employees following the tragic fire at Afriland Towers in Lagos on Tuesday, September 16, 2025
In a statement on Monday via their X page, the company identified the deceased as Jesutoni Shodipo, Kehinde Adeoye, Ndidi Osaemedike-Okeke, Olumide Oyefodunrin, Opeyemi Oloyede, and Rebecca Adenuga.

Describing the loss as “immeasurable,” United Capital said the employees were valued members of the company and its family.
“It is with profound grief that we announce the passing of six of our dear colleagues, following the tragic fire at Afriland Towers. Their painful loss leaves an immeasurable void,” the statement read.
The company extended condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of the victims, pledging ongoing support during this difficult period. It also revealed plans for a memorial service to honour the lives of the departed staff, promising to mark their passing “with dignity and solemnity.”
United Capital urged unity and solidarity among its workforce, emphasizing the importance of drawing strength from one another in the midst of grief. “May the souls of the departed rest in peace,” the company added, while commending emergency services and first responders for their efforts during the incident.
Recall that Afriland Towers, which houses offices of United Capital Plc, the United Bank for Africa, and the Federal Inland Revenue Service, was engulfed in smoke that trapped occupants and forced some to leap from upper floors. The fire reportedly claimed 10 lives, including four FIRS personnel on duty.
