The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has responded to the tragic d3ath of two actors on a movie set in Owerri, Imo State, by calling for national prayers

The incident occurred after the actors reportedly consumed a drink given to them by the movie’s producer. Filmmaker Stanley Ontop had earlier shared a video showing four actors being rushed to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri, where two were confirmed d3ad on arrival.
Reacting to the development, AGN President Emeka Rollas took to Instagram, urging the industry to join a prayer session led by Pastor Jerry Eze. He emphasized that the victims were not AGN members but warned of a troubling pattern of annual mass deaths in Nollywood.
“Barely a week after the memorial for our member, the late Junior Pope, tragedy struck again in Owerri,” Rollas wrote. “They are not AGN members, but the devil seems bent on repeating this pattern every year. If not for God, the death toll would’ve been four—just like last year in Asaba.”
He urged all Nollywood actors to participate in this year’s prayer outing to avert further tragedies.
The latest incident echoes the devastating loss of Junior Pope and three crew members during a film shoot in Asaba in 2023. At the time, AGN had stated it couldn’t take legal action against the producer, Adanma Luke, since Junior Pope was not a dues-paying member.
