Senate President Godswill Akpabio has been honored with an award for his exceptional leadership and commitment to promoting gender-friendly policies, inclusivity, and fairness in the Nigerian Senate

However, the recognition has been overshadowed by controversy surrounding allegations of sexual harassment against him.
Female Legislative Aides of the 10th National Assembly presented the award to Akpabio, praising his efforts in creating an enabling environment for women in the National Assembly. Nevertheless, the timing of the award has raised eyebrows, given the recent suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who accused Akpabio of sexual harassment.
Akpabio has denied the allegations, but the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized the suspension, calling it an attempt to suppress the allegations and undermine the principle of fair hearing. The party has also questioned Akpabio’s credibility, highlighting his refusal to step aside and submit to an investigation.
The controversy has sparked debate about Akpabio’s leadership and commitment to upholding values of fairness and accountability. As the Senate President, Akpabio has pledged to continue supporting policies that promote inclusivity and gender equality. However, the outcome of the investigation into the allegations against him will be crucial in determining the credibility of his leadership and the Nigerian Senate as a whole.
