Senate President Godswill Akpabio has criticized Senator Natasha Akpoti for allegedly distorting facts about her suspension during a United Nations (UN) inter-parliamentary conference in New York on Tuesday, March 12
During the Senate plenary on Thursday, March 13, Akpabio accused Akpoti of embarrassing the Nigerian Senate by presenting a misleading narrative to the international community.
“I am aware that she distorted the facts and globalized the matter, embarrassing the Senate by giving a different narrative,” Akpabio said. “She brought the matter before the Senate through a petition but did not allow us to examine it. Instead, she took it to court and later to the international community. Actions like these could discourage politicians from appointing women into key positions.”
Akpoti had claimed at the UN event that her suspension was linked to her sexual harassment allegations against Akpabio, a claim he strongly refuted. Akpabio also praised Hon. Kafilat for clarifying the situation to the international media, insisting that Akpoti’s account did not reflect reality.
