The newly selected Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has commenced the traditional 21-day rites known as “Oro Ipebi,” a significant seclusion period required before his formal ascension to the throne

The rites, which began on Friday, March 7, 2025, will continue until Saturday, March 29, 2025. During this period, a strict nightly curfew has been imposed across Oyo township from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily.
Residents have been advised to remain indoors, as violators risk arrest and detention until 7 a.m. the following day.
The coronation ceremony for Oba Owoade is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025, in Oyo town.
