Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner in four sets on Sunday to win the US Open, a night marked as much by tennis brilliance as by the mixed reaction to President Donald Trump’s presence at the final in New York
The 22-year-old Spaniard triumphed 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to claim his second US Open title and sixth Grand Slam crown, avenging his loss to Sinner in July’s Wimbledon final.

The victory also ends Sinner’s 27-match winning streak at hard-court majors and restores Alcaraz as world number one for the first time since September 2023.
“I tried my best today. I couldn’t do more,” admitted Sinner, who also fell to Alcaraz in a dramatic French Open final earlier this year.
Sinner’s defeat prolongs the US Open’s unique streak in the Open era — no man has defended the title since Roger Federer’s five-year run between 2004 and 2008.
