Nigerian social media user, AlvinOfLagos, has raised concerns over what he describes as worsening transportation challenges at Lagos airport, particularly involving ride-hailing services and airport-authorised taxis.
In a post that has since circulated online, he accused airport transport operators and ride-hailing restrictions of forcing passengers into inflated fares after flights.
He wrote:
“I have entered okada ,lagos airport people since you cannot regulate Airport Uber drivers. A ride will be saying 1500, 17,000 but an Uber will refuse except you pay 50,000 above and the excuse they give is airport charges. Yet you people will refuse Uber from outside to come and pick people from inside the airport. Someone will buy a flight ticket for ₦150,000, and after arriving, still spend about ₦50,000 on airport taxi fare,”.
The complaint reflects frustration over what passengers describe as inconsistent and often inflated transport pricing at the airport. According to the post, ride-hailing drivers operating within the airport environment justify higher fares by pointing to airport-related charges and operational restrictions.
Murtala Muhammed International Airport operates a controlled ground transportation system that includes official airport taxis and regulated pickup rules for ride-hailing services.
Over the years, travellers have frequently complained about high fares, limited access for external drivers, and sudden price increases during busy travel periods, contributing to ongoing issues about regulation and passenger convenience.
