Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has fired back at his political rival, Rotimi Amaechi, saying you are not hungry for food like you have said, but hungry for POWER
Wike made the remarks on Monday during a media parley in Abuja, responding to Amaechi’s recent statement at his 60th birthday celebration, where the former Minister of Transportation declared, “We’re all hungry, all of us are. If you’re not hungry, I am.”
Wike dismissed the hunger claim, accusing Amaechi of exploiting the occasion to mislead Nigerians.
“Now that they are out of power, they say they are hungry. It’s not hunger for food. It’s hunger for power,” Wike said.
He continued: “I don’t know why a man will choose his 60th birthday to lie to Nigerians that he’s hungry. He was Speaker from 1999 to 2007, Governor from 2007 to 2015, and Minister from 2015 to 2023. He never mentioned hunger.”
Wike further mocked Amaechi’s performance during the 2023 general elections, noting his failure to secure 25% for his party in Rivers State despite his influence and former role as Director-General of the Buhari campaign.
“He was even the DG of the campaign then. Yet, he couldn’t deliver 25% in Rivers. That alone speaks volumes.”
Taking a jab at Amaechi’s political moves, Wike said:
“They are regrouping because they can’t stay out of power. It’s not about the people, it’s about their own ambitions. If we had supported the PDP, Amaechi would’ve tried to claim the credit. But let him start from home — Rivers. Let’s see what he can achieve.”
On the statement by Amaechi that “they will remove the president,” Wike warned, “Is it a military coup? That kind of language reeks of desperation and dictatorship. Nigerians saw what happened in 2015. Now, the same people are crying wolf.”
