Andoni Iraola will leave AFC Bournemouth at the end of the 2025/26 season, bringing an end to his successful three-year spell in charge after the club confirmed both parties were unable to agree on a new contract
The 43-year-old, who joined in June 2023 following the departure of Gary O’Neil, has informed the club that he will step down once his current deal expires, despite Bournemouth’s efforts to convince him to stay. The decision follows lengthy discussions that had reportedly been ongoing for over a year.
In an official statement, Bournemouth said: “AFC Bournemouth can confirm that head coach, Andoni Iraola, will leave the club at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, bringing an end to his successful three-year tenure on the south coast.”
Iraola departs after overseeing one of the most impressive periods in the club’s modern history. He led Bournemouth to a ninth-place Premier League finish last season, setting a club-record 56 points and earning widespread praise for the team’s attacking style of play.
Despite significant squad changes during his reign — including the departures of Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, Illia Zabarnyi, Dango Ouattara, and Antoine Semenyo for a combined £253 million — the Cherries have remained competitive and are still in the hunt for European qualification, sitting just two points off seventh place with six games remaining.
His final home match will be against Manchester City on May 17, before his last game in charge comes away at Nottingham Forest on the final day of the season.
In his farewell message, Iraola said: “It has been an honour to manage Bournemouth and I am proud of what we have achieved together,” adding that he remains grateful to the players, staff, chairman Bill Foley, and supporters.
He continued: “As for the fans, you have continued to show your fantastic support to myself and the team, and for that I will always be grateful.”
Iraola concluded: “I feel this is the right moment for me to step away, but I will always carry fantastic memories of this club.”
