The driver of the vehicle carrying former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua during the fatal crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has been discharged from the hospital and may face prosecution for reckless driving
The Guardian reported that the driver was released from Duchess International Hospital, Lagos, where Joshua was initially treated for injuries sustained in the accident.

Following his discharge, the driver provided a statement to security agencies and could face charges. The truck involved in the crash is currently held at the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) office at the Sagamu interchange.
“Anthony Joshua’s driver has been discharged from the hospital, and he is currently giving his statement,” Nigeria Police Force spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin told The Guardian.
An FRSC official added that the driver of the stationary truck involved in the crash fled the scene immediately and was later declared wanted.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) attributed the crash to a combination of excessive speed and a burst tyre on the SUV Joshua was travelling in. TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi said, “From the preliminary investigation, there was overspeeding on the part of the SUV Anthony Joshua was travelling in. During that, the front tyre on the passenger side burst, leading to loss of control before the vehicle swerved into the stationary truck. There was excessive speed.”
