Real Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger has been suspended for six matches by the Spanish Football Federation following his actions during the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona

Rüdiger, who had already been substituted, threw a bag of ice toward referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea in the final moments of the match. Although the object did not make contact with the official, the act was considered a serious offense, leading to his immediate dismissal and the subsequent lengthy suspension.
The ban will apply across all RFEF competitions, including LaLiga fixtures. However, Rüdiger recently underwent surgery for a meniscus tear and was already set to miss the remainder of the season.
In contrast, Jude Bellingham, who was also sent off after the final whistle for allegedly confronting the referee, has had his red card overturned after video evidence contradicted the official’s match report. Meanwhile, Lucas Vázquez received a two-game ban for entering the pitch to protest the referee’s decisions.
Rüdiger has since issued a public apology, stating, “There’s definitely no excuse for my behavior. I’m very sorry for that… Sorry again to the referee and to everyone I have disappointed.”
