Edu has left his position as sporting director of Arsenal, the London club confirmed on Monday
“It has been a special journey. I loved working with excellent colleagues in the men’s, women’s, and academy teams, especially with Mikel Arteta, who has become a great friend. Now it’s time to seek a different challenge. Arsenal will always remain in my heart,” Edu said in statements to the club’s media.
According to The Athletic, Edu’s departure is linked to a new project he will embark on, joining the group of Greek Evangelos Marinakis, owner of ‘s SAD. The Brazilian will be working at Nottingham Forest, managed by Portuguese coach Nuno Espírito Santo.
The Brazilian executive, who was part of the “Invincibles” squad, returned to Arsenal in 2019 to assume the role of technical director. Since 2022, he has been responsible for both the men’s and women’s teams as well as the youth development at the Gunners.
Edu, along with Mikel Arteta, has been pivotal in the recent reorganization of Arsenal, which has returned to contention in the Premier League.
