Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has denied a claim alleging she was dropped from Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after refusing to comply with certain demands from football officials
The statement, which surfaced on a verified Facebook account bearing her name, alleged that she was excluded from the national team by “corrupt officials” after declining to meet inappropriate conditions for selection.
It further claimed she was considering stepping away from the national team, stating that her “talent, hard work, dedication and commitment” were not enough to secure a place, and insisting she would not compromise her values for a call-up.
However, Plumptre has dismissed the post as false, warning fans that the Facebook account in question does not belong to her despite being verified.
Taking to her Instagram Story on Tuesday, she urged followers to report the account, expressing frustration that it continues to circulate misleading content.
She wrote: “This Facebook account is still causing problems … Please report. Crazy how it’s verified.”
She also addressed the issue on her verified X account, simply stating: “Not at all true…”
