African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking an order to disqualify President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election
The case centres on an NYSC discharge certificate that the plaintiffs allege was forged and submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as part of Tinubu’s electoral documents.
Atiku and the other plaintiffs are challenging the name appearing on the certificate. They claim the document submitted to INEC carries the name “Tinubu Bola Adekunle”, while the President is known as “Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
They want the court to determine whether the alleged difference in the names on the NYSC certificate has any effect on Tinubu’s eligibility to seek another presidential term in 2027.
The suit also asks the court to examine relevant provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 concerning the requirements for presidential candidates.
The plaintiffs are essentially asking the court to decide whether the alleged irregularity in the NYSC document provides sufficient grounds to prevent Tinubu from participating in the next presidential election.
