Austin Eguavoen, who also serves as the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), was appointed to lead the team on a temporary basis after the NFF’s attempts to secure a permanent head coach failed to materialize.

During his time as interim coach, Eguavoen was tasked with guiding the Super Eagles through two crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

He successfully fulfilled this mandate, leading the team with his characteristic expertise and passion.

Eguavoen’s decision to step down comes as no surprise, as he had initially agreed to take on the role for a limited period.

His brief stint as interim coach has provided stability and direction for the team, and his contributions will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the Super Eagles’ progress.

With Eguavoen’s departure, the NFF will now resume its search for a permanent head coach to lead the team forward.

The federation will be seeking a candidate with the vision, experience, and expertise to build on the foundations laid by Eguavoen and take the Super Eagles to even greater heights.
