But amidst the devastation, there was hope. Rescuers discovered that Sabreen al-Sakani was 30 weeks pregnant. In a race against time at the hospital, doctors performed an emergency C-section to save the baby’s life.
Little Sabreen, fighting for breath, was carefully tended to by medical staff. Despite the odds, she survived.
Now, in the neonatal intensive care unit, Sabreen continues her fight for life. Dr. Mohammad Salameh, head of the unit, notes some progress but acknowledges the ongoing risks due to her premature birth.
Sabreen’s paternal grandmother, Ahalam al-Kurdi, vows to care for her granddaughter, seeing her as a precious reminder of her son. Amidst the tragedy, Sabreen’s birth brings both sorrow and renewed determination to cherish and protect the innocent lives affected by the conflict.
