Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has alleged that many kidnappers and bandit groups in Nigeria adopted their kidnapping style from notorious billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, widely known as Evans
Gumi made the statement in a Facebook post on Friday while reacting to reports about the discovery of illegal weapon manufacturing centres in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to him, Evans became a reference point for criminal groups after gaining notoriety for abducting wealthy individuals and demanding huge ransoms before his arrest in Lagos in 2017.
“Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike (commonly called ‘Evans’) was the most infamous kidnapper in Nigeria’s history, especially in Lagos. He targeted wealthy individuals and demanded huge ransoms before his arrest in 2017. From him others copy,” Gumi wrote.
The cleric’s comment followed reports that troops of Operation Enduring Peace uncovered illegal arms factories allegedly connected to suspected Berom militia members accused of producing weapons used in attacks and killings in Plateau State.
