Suspected bandits have killed Oba Kehinde Jacob Faledon, the traditional ruler of Agamo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, during a failed kidnapping attempt, raising concerns over escalating insecurity in the area
According to residents , the attackers stormed the monarch’s palace on Wednesday night intending to abduct him. The situation turned deadly when Oba Faledon reportedly resisted and was later found a short distance from his home with fatal gunshot wounds.

Confirming the incident, Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer Jimoh Abayomi said a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu, alerted the police around 7:50 p.m. about six armed men forcibly taking the monarch from his residence. The victim was later confirmed dead at the scene.
Abayomi added that the police, in collaboration with local security groups, were immediately deployed to the area. “The Divisional Police Officer, supported by tactical teams, mobilised officers alongside local hunters, Atuluse Security, and Amotekun operatives to comb surrounding bushes and neighbouring communities,” he said.
A manhunt has been launched for the fleeing suspects, and security surveillance has been intensified across the region to prevent further attacks. “Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators of this heinous crime. Monitoring activities have also been strengthened to ensure the safety of residents and prevent a breakdown of law and order,” Abayomi stated.
The police assured the public that those responsible would face justice and urged residents to cooperate. “The command will leave no stone unturned in unraveling this crime. Members of the public with credible and actionable information are urged to report to the nearest police station,” he added.
