Bauchi State currently has 20 constitutionally recognized local government areas. With the creation of 29 more, the state — which has an estimated population of about 10 million — will now have a total of 49 LGAs.

In a letter addressed to Senator Barau Jibrin, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Constitutional Review, Yerima stated: “I am pleased to inform you that the Bauchi State House of Assembly has passed into law a bill to provide for the creation of 29 additional local government areas in Bauchi State, 2025.”

He explained that the newly created LGAs will remain inchoate until the National Assembly enacts an accompanying law formalizing their names and status in accordance with Section 8(5) of the 1999 Constitution.

Yerima added that the law was duly passed in line with Subsection 3 of Section 100 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
