The controversy surrounding the visit of young streamer Peller to the palace of Oba Ewuare II in Benin City seems not dying down anytime soon and now, the Benin Queen has stepped in to share her side of the story.

Peller, had stopped by the palace on March 6 during his nationwide tour. During the visit, he was warmly received by the queen, who even presented him with a gift. But what seemed like a friendly cultural moment quickly turned controversial.

The Benin Traditional Council later described the visit as inappropriate, even going as far as calling it a desecration.

This led to serious consequences within the palace, including the suspension of a chief and the detention of some palace staff. Peller himself was also summoned over the incident.

However, things took a different turn when Peller’s team released a letter showing that the visit wasn’t as sudden as claimed.

The letter, dated February and stamped by palace and council officials, suggested that the palace had been informed ahead of time. It stated:

“With utmost respect and humility, we write to formally inform the palace of the planned visit of a very prominent online streamer, Peller to Benin, also to the revered palace of the Oba of Benin on the 3rd of March, 2026.

We are pleased to also note that UYIEKPEN OGIEFA, son of Chief Ogefe, Uyi Ogefe, THE NOZEBEN of Benin Kingdom, will be accompanying him during this his visit to the palace.

In light of this visit, we humbly and respectfully request the privilege of a session with His Royal Majesty, the Oba of Benin, if only for a very brief audience, at a time most convenient to the great palace.

We deeply appreciate the sacred traditions and the dignity of the Benin Kingdom, and we assure the palace of our highest regard, respect, and proper conduct throughout the visit.
Thank you very much.”

Amid the growing debate, the queen addressed the issue directly on Instagram, hinting that the situation is more complex than it appears. She pushed back against claims that the visit was unauthorized and suggested there are deeper issues behind the scenes.

She wrote:

“Hello everyone, the issues at hand isn’t just because Peller came to the palace’s or me gifting him, a lot has been happening behind close doors, the Benin traditional council lied that peller coming to the palace was unauthorized and I brought him from the …”

Her response has added another layer to the unfolding situation, raising questions about internal disagreements within the palace and what really led to the backlash.
