The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Deborah Tsumba Aber, who explained that the holiday is to allow residents to come out en masse and give the President a warm welcome.

President Tinubu is expected to visit Benue to commiserate with the state following a series of deadly attacks, including the recent massacre in Yelewata, which claimed over 200 lives. His visit will also include a town hall meeting with stakeholders and a security briefing.

While the state government urged citizens to turn out in large numbers, Aber clarified that essential workers such as healthcare providers, security agencies, and bank staff are exempt from the work-free day.

The visit comes after Tinubu rescheduled his planned trip to Kaduna State in order to personally assess the situation in Benue and show solidarity with the grieving communities.
