The 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, widely known as Binani, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC)

Her media aide, Maulud Usman, confirmed the move on Sunday, July 20. He revealed that Binani arrived quietly in Yola on Saturday evening, July 19, where she declared her defection to the ADC in the presence of close allies.
“It wasn’t planned as an elaborate event, and there was no media invite, but the declaration has been made,” Usman stated, adding that a formal unveiling ceremony is being planned to outline her next political steps.
Binani served as senator for Adamawa Central from 2019 to 2023 and gained national attention in 2022 when she emerged as the APC’s first-ever female governorship candidate after defeating five male contenders. She narrowly lost the 2023 election to incumbent Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the PDP.
Her defection comes amid unconfirmed reports that former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, has also joined the ADC.
Both figures are reportedly expected to return to Yola next month for a major political rally where their alliance under the ADC will be formally launched.
