Boko Haram insurgents have overrun a military base in Borno State, k!lling the commanding officer and several other personnel in a devastating early-morning attack
The assault took place on Monday in Kukawa Local Government Area, with sources reporting that the terrorists struck the military camp around 12:30 a.m.
“They stormed the town from multiple directions and attacked the military camp,” a local source said.

According to a security insider, the insurgents forced troops out of the base, set military vehicles on fire, and seized ammunition. “I cannot say much about the casualties, but it’s very sad that we also lost the CO here,” the source added.
Last month, the same base had been targeted, but troops successfully repelled the attack, killing numerous terrorists. That earlier defense earned widespread praise for the Commanding Officer, including commendations from the Kukawa community and the local lawmaker, Karta Maina Ma’aji Lawan.
Reacting to the latest assault, Lawan described it as a tragic setback, noting the severity of the base being overrun this time.
The attack follows a recent strike by terrorists on a military base and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Ngoshe town, Gwoza Local Government Area, which resulted in multiple soldier and civilian deaths.
