Nollywood actress and filmmaker Bolaji Ogunmola has issued a public apology to the Yoruba community after facing heavy criticism over a controversial scene in one of her films
The backlash followed a viral clip in which actor IK Ogbonna made remarks considered offensive during a comedic exchange in the production, prompting widespread outrage and threats directed at the actress. The controversy even led her to temporarily step away from social media.

Addressing the issue, Ogunmola expressed regret over the pain caused and apologised to the Yoruba people, stressing that the reaction over the past few days had been overwhelming.
She clarified that the project in question was filmed about three years ago and was intended to be a lighthearted story centered on tribal misunderstandings that eventually resolve in love and unity. According to her, there was never any intention to insult or stereotype any ethnic group.
Reaffirming her identity, she also noted her deep Yoruba roots, stating that she is proud of her heritage and did not mean to disrespect her people.
Ogunmola concluded by taking full responsibility for the situation and apologising to her supporters and the wider Yoruba community for the unintended fallout.
She said: “First of all, I want to apologise to the well-respected Yoruba people for this error. The insult and threat to life and livelihood I have experienced in the last three days has been extremely disturbing,
“I am Yoruba, omo Ibadan ponbele ni mi. I take full responsibility and sincerely apologise to my people and lovers of my work,” she added.
