Comedian Bovi has recalled a difficult period when he had to keep working despite dealing with serious family issues.
During an interview, he said he was hosting an event in Ilashe when he received news that his mother had been k!dnapped. He had to put his emotions aside, return to the event and continue working.
He said:
“So in 2012, my mom was k!dnapped, I was called, but I was in Ilashe doing an event. I had to suck it up because this was happening in Delta State. I’m in Lagos. I’m not even in Lagos. I was on the island.
I made a few calls. ‘MC, we need you now.’ Ran back, continued working, doing the event.
I was just going through the motions, and people were laughing, but my soul wasn’t there. My mind wasn’t there. And then she got rescued hours later.
When she passed in 2016, she passed in January, and in February, Ben Bruce was having his 60th birthday, and they wanted me to host. So I was conflicted. Do I do this?
Am I insensitive for working when the person who gave birth to me is no more? But I went ahead and did the event. And all through that night, I was just thinking.
I would get on stage, do my part, do my bit. I was hosting, and people were laughing, and they didn’t even know I was dy!ng inside. I was really a hot mess at the time.”
