Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos has been rushed to hospital for emergency heart surgery

According to Spanish outlet AS, the Brazilian was taken in for treatment after a small clot was found in his leg. An MRI then confirmed a problem with his heart and Carlos then underwent a three-hour procedure to fit a tube and correct the issue.
The surgery was only scheduled to take around 40 minutes but an issue saw it go over. Carlos is said to be fine following the operation but he has been kept in hospital for 48 hours as a precaution.
Nevertheless, Carlos has spoken out via his entourage, who said to AS: “I’m fine now.”
Carlos, 52, was on holiday in Brazil when the issue was detected. He had previously been involved in the draw for the 2026 World Cup in the USA.
The former defender had enjoyed a stunning playing career, having represented Palmeiras and Inter Milan before a move to Real Madrid.
Carlos became a legendary figure at the club, making 527 appearances for the Spanish giants, scoring 69 goals. He won four league titles, three Champions Leagues and a whole host of other trophies at the Santiago Bernabeu.
