Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and First Lady Janja da Silva, today, Monday, November 18, welcomed President Bola Tinubu and First Lady, Remi Tinubu to the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, marking the commencement of the 2024 G20 Summit

President Tinubu is attending the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit, which takes place from November 18 to 19, following an official invitation from President Lula da Silva, the current G20 Chair.
During the summit, President Tinubu is expected to engage in bilateral talks to advance Nigeria’s socio-economic reform agenda.
The G20 Summit, themed “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” will explore sustainable development across economic, social, and environmental domains, as well as topics like global governance reforms, climate change, and the digital economy.
The Brazilian presidency has also highlighted pressing global issues such as the Israel–Hamas conflict and tensions between the United States and China, with summit outcomes to reflect a year of diplomatic efforts.
The G20 includes 19 countries—Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, and the United States—along with the European Union. Notably, this summit also welcomes the African Union and European Union, aligning with President Lula da Silva’s emphasis on addressing global challenges like food security and extreme poverty eradication by 2030.
