An early morning explosion rocked Woro in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State on Monday, sparking renewed fears over security in the region.
While the exact number of casualties remains unclear, several people are feared dead as authorities continue to assess the situation
The incident comes just weeks after deadly attacks in nearby communities, which drew the attention of the Federal Government. In February, Vice President Kashim Shettima visited Kaiama to sympathise with victims of attacks in Nuku and Woro, assuring residents of intensified efforts to restore peace.
During the visit, he conveyed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu to stabilise the area, announcing the deployment of a Nigerian Army battalion alongside emergency assistance through the National Emergency Management Agency in partnership with the state government. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had also confirmed the mobilisation of security forces under Operation Savannah Shield.
The latest explosion has heightened anxiety among residents, raising fresh doubts about the effectiveness of ongoing security measures and highlighting the fragile peace in the affected communities.
