Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shift in the state

The announcement was made on Friday, June 6, 2025, during a gathering at the Government House in Uyo, attended by several APC governors and top party leaders.
Speaking on his decision, Governor Eno said:
“It is time to move. After wide consultations with stakeholders across the state and beyond, I have decided to align Akwa Ibom with the government at the center for the sake of our people. This is about development, unity, and progress, not personal interest.”
He emphasized that the move was aimed at ensuring Akwa Ibom benefits more directly from federal programs and infrastructure initiatives.
The defection has sparked mixed reactions across the political landscape. While some APC supporters welcomed the move, key PDP members, including former National Legal Adviser Emmanuel Enoidem, voiced their disapproval and reaffirmed the PDP’s resolve to remain a strong opposition in the state.
Security around the venue was heightened during the event. A larger ceremony had been planned but was scaled down due to the Muslim Sallah holiday.
Governor Eno’s switch to the APC could reshape political dynamics in Akwa Ibom and significantly impact the state’s alignment with federal authorities.
