The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that it will not recognise the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), pointing to existing court rulings and unresolved legal issues
This position was conveyed in a letter dated December 22, 2025, and signed by the INEC Secretary, Dr Rose Oriaran-Anthony.
INEC explained that it could not comply with requests to recognise or upload on its website the list of national officers reportedly elected at the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025.
According to the Commission, its decision is based on subsisting court judgments and ongoing litigation surrounding the leadership dispute within the PDP.
INEC added that recognising any faction of the party’s leadership while the matter is still before the courts would be inappropriate.
