BREAKING: Iran closes Strait of Hormuz again

Iranian state media has reported that the Strait of Hormuz has been placed under what it described as “strict control,” effectively restricting passage through one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes

According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, the new military directive means the waterway is now “closed again,” with movement of vessels reportedly requiring Iranian approval before entry or exit.

The development comes after a brief reopening of the route following a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, a period that had raised expectations of improved stability in global energy shipping lanes.

In a statement attributed to Iran’s joint military command, authorities said the situation had changed due to what they described as the United States’ failure to lift restrictions on Iranian maritime operations.

The statement read that Iran had previously agreed in negotiations to allow limited passage for oil tankers and commercial vessels “in good faith,” but accused Washington of continuing what it called a blockade.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, following previous agreements in negotiations, has agreed in good faith to the managed passage of a limited number of oil tankers and commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz,” the statement said.

It further added that because the situation had not been resolved, control of the waterway had “returned to its previous state,” with the armed forces maintaining strict oversight.

The Strait of Hormuz Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most critical global shipping routes, with any disruption often triggering concerns over international oil supply and prices.

Iran warned that the current restrictions would remain in place unless it claims the United States guarantees full freedom of navigation for Iranian vessels both inbound and outbound.
