BREAKING: JAMB sets 150 as cutoff mark for University admission

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), alongside key stakeholders in the tertiary education sector, has approved 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for university admission in the 2025 academic session

The decision was reached on Monday during the 2026 annual policy meeting on admissions into tertiary institutions held in Abuja.

The approved scores, known as the National Minimum Tolerable UTME Scores, indicate that no university in Nigeria will be allowed to admit candidates who score below the agreed benchmark.

However, institutions still retain the autonomy to set higher cut-off marks for specific courses or admission categories.

In previous sessions, universities also adopted 150 as the minimum benchmark, while polytechnics and colleges of education maintained 100 as their entry threshold.

The new decision was reached after extensive deliberations and voting by heads of tertiary institutions, including vice-chancellors and other education stakeholders present at the meeting.
