BREAKING: National Grid collapses again

Parts of Nigeria have been plunged into darkness following another national grid collapse on Wednesday, marking the second outage of the year

According to data from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), the collapse occurred around 11:30 a.m. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to disclose the cause of the disturbance.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the incident, stating, “We regret to inform you that a system disturbance occurred on the national grid at 11:34 a.m. today (Wednesday), causing a power outage across our franchise areas. While gradual restoration has commenced, we are working with relevant stakeholders to fully restore electricity as soon as the grid is stabilized.”

A popular Nigeria National Grid account on X also reported, “There was a GRID DISTURBANCE before noon today (Wednesday). Parts of the country experienced an outage.”

When contacted, TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah said she was in transit and promised to provide further details later.

This latest collapse follows a previous grid failure on January 11, 2025, and continues a trend of instability, with the national grid experiencing around 12 collapses in 2024.
