Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party faction loyal to National Vice Chairman (North Central), Mohammed Abdulrahman, stormed the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Monday, demanding that the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Umar Damagum vacate the premises immediately. The protesters chanted solidarity songs as they occupied the headquarters
Abdulrahman was appointed Acting National Chairman last week amid a deepening leadership crisis in the party, which escalated following the one-month suspension of the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade.

In a counter-move, Anyanwu’s faction held a separate meeting in Abuja, announcing the suspension of the Damagum-led NWC.
The PDP, via its official X account, described the events as an attack on the National Secretariat, stating that Anyanwu had mobilized “a group of armed thugs” to the Wuse Zone 5 office. The party alleged that the incident involved harassment and intimidation of staff, security personnel, and journalists covering the crisis.
Eyewitnesses reported that over 50 individuals loyal to Anyanwu’s faction breached barriers, vandalized office equipment, and physically assaulted administrative staff. Several journalists were also threatened, shoved, and had their recording devices confiscated, in an apparent attempt to suppress coverage.
The party further noted that security forces on site did not intervene to stop the attacks.
