President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has been re-elected as the chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) at the 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday

This development comes about a year after he initially assumed leadership of the regional bloc in May 2023.
In his opening remarks, President Tinubu emphasized the need for ECOWAS member states to commit financially to combating terrorism in the region.
He stressed that both strong political will and substantial financial resources are essential for the success of the ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF) in counter-terrorism efforts.
President Tinubu urged member states to provide additional resources to stabilize the region, aligning with the recommendations of defence and finance ministers to address insecurity and promote regional stability.
