FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against readmitting former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, saying such a move could cripple the party ahead of the 2027 elections
Speaking during a media chat on Monday, the former Rivers State governor accused the PDP of repeating its past mistakes, particularly its disregard for zoning and equitable leadership distribution in the 2023 polls.

Wike recalled opposing the emergence of both the party’s presidential candidate and national chairman from the North, calling it unjust and politically reckless.
“From day one, I told my colleagues in PDP, you are shooting yourself. If you allow what is going on to continue, you’ll pay. And what did I say? You cannot have the presidential candidate at the same time as the national chairman of the party,” Wike said.
He alleged that the party’s leadership “stole” both the ticket and chairmanship positions, a move he said “purged” the PDP and contributed to its electoral defeat. Wike maintained that the presidency must return to the South in the interest of fairness and balance.
Dismissing speculations about Obi’s possible return, Wike said the move would erode whatever credibility the PDP still has.
“To what? Bringing Obi to where? You want to kill the party? Obi that was abusing the party, saying it is rotten—so the party is now good enough for him? Ambition can make people even go to Satan’s house,” he said.
According to Wike, bringing Obi back would strip the PDP of ideology and principle, leaving it as nothing more than a platform for personal ambition.
“If you want to destroy this party, dare it—bring Obi. There’s no way he will come back just because of ambition. No more ideology, no longer principle,” Wike warned.
