Umar Yar’Adua, son of Senator AbdulAziz Yar’Adua and nephew of the late President Umar Musa Yar’Adua, has encouraged young people to focus on creating their own legacies instead of depending solely on their family names
In a video shared on social media, Umar spoke about the challenges and responsibilities that come with carrying a well-known family name. He noted that while his lineage carries influence, personal success cannot be assumed and must be earned.

He said: “Do you know what it feels like when everyone knows your father’s name but nobody knows yours? My uncle was the late President Umar Musa Yar’Adua, my other uncle was late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, and my dad is Senator AbdulAziz Yar’Adua.
“I grew up in a family where the name carried weight, but that doesn’t make me anything on its own. If I don’t work to build myself, I’ll just be another shadow living off their reputation.
“Your father’s name may open doors, but only your own work and achievements will keep you inside. Stop hiding in someone else’s shadow.”
