Burna Boy becomes most streamed artiste in Africa

Burna Boy has set a new milestone on Spotify after becoming the African artiste with the highest number of streams in the platform’s history

The Grammy-winning singer reached a record 46.84 million monthly listeners, surpassing South African star Tyla, whose previous peak stood at 46.58 million.

The achievement has largely been driven by the success of “Dai Dai,” his collaboration with Colombian superstar Shakira, which was selected as the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The song gained global attention following its performance at the tournament’s opening ceremony and has continued to perform strongly across streaming platforms and international charts.

Before the rise of “Dai Dai,” Burna Boy’s biggest Spotify hit was “Last Last,” which remains one of his most-streamed songs and is approaching 600 million streams.

The streaming record comes ahead of the release of his next studio album and his planned global “Unity Tour” later this year.

“Dai Dai” has also climbed music charts across Europe, reaching No. 1 in Spain, No. 2 in France, No. 3 in Italy, No. 4 in the United Kingdom, No. 5 in Switzerland and No. 8 in Germany.

Among African artists, Burna Boy currently leads the Spotify monthly listeners ranking ahead of Tems, Ayra Starr and Rema.

Globally, Bruno Mars holds Spotify’s all-time highest monthly listener peak with 133.6 million, followed by Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, Rihanna and Michael Jackson.
