The Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) has issued a strong warning in an open letter to Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, founder of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), over his recent remarks about the late Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, the church’s first General Evangelist
During a sermon, Fatoyinbo described Apostle Babalola as a “highly anointed man of God who had no money,” adding that his grace “just went like that,” before asking sarcastically, “Where are his children?” The CAC condemned these statements as “mocking, insensitive, and ill-informed.”

In the letter signed by Pastor Ade Alawode, CAC’s Director of Publicity, the church said it normally avoids responding to social media controversies but felt obliged to correct Fatoyinbo’s “misleading narrative” about ministry and wealth.
The church warned against equating anointing with material prosperity, citing Scripture to show that godly success is measured by sacrificial service, not financial status. Alawode stressed that Apostle Babalola lived a life of divine provision, generosity, and integrity—supporting education, feeding the poor, and housing many beyond his own family, without exploiting the pulpit.
The CAC also clarified that Babalola’s children are alive, blessed, and faithfully serving God, while his legacy continues to inspire over six decades after his passing. The church further rejected Fatoyinbo’s prosperity theology as unbiblical and dangerous, warning that it encourages greed and undermines moral values.
Quoting Luke 12:15—“One’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions”—Alawode reminded preachers that the Kingdom of God is about righteousness, peace, and joy, not material accumulation. He challenged Fatoyinbo to reflect on Acts 3:6, where Peter declared, “Silver and gold I do not have,” yet was powerfully anointed.
The letter concluded with a call for humility, reverence, and sound teaching, urging ministers to avoid demeaning others in pursuit of wealth-based validation.
