“Call your parents while you still can” — Buchi Franklin speaks on losing his mother

Nollywood actor Buchi Franklin has spoken about the emotional impact of losing his mother.

Using his experience to reflect on love, grief, and the importance of staying connected to one’s parents while they are still alive.

During a recent interview, the actor explained that the death of his mother completely changed the way he sees life and relationships.

He described grief as something that only becomes real when it is tied to deep affection and genuine connection.

“My mom raised me right,” he said emotionally.

He went on to express that, in his understanding, grief is closely linked with love, and people often do not fully grasp the depth of love until they experience loss.

“I’ve come to understand that grief is a sign that you really did understand the meaning of love. So, you must lose someone before you know you can love,” he said.

Buchi Franklin also shared that the most important person in his life was the one he eventually lost, a moment he described as deeply painful and life-changing.
“The most important person in my life… I lost that person,” he said.

The actor used the opportunity to advise people not to take their parents for granted, regardless of their relationship or circumstances. He stressed the importance of making time for them, even in small ways.

“My advice to everybody that has a parent, whether your parent is useless or not, find time, reach out to them,” he said.

He further encouraged people to appreciate everyday moments with their parents, noting that simple interactions can become the memories people miss the most later in life.

“Call them, make them laugh, because a time will come when you will wish you had the opportunity to just play with them again,” he added.

Through his emotional reflection, Buchi Franklin reminded many that life is unpredictable and relationships with loved ones should not be postponed.
